Much Ado About Nothing

{May 16, 2009}   Delist

Had an exceedingly busy day today at work.
Yesterday was bad, I had lots to do in only four hours, and ended up on tills, so lost out on two hours of validation, the main part of my day.
Today was worse.
I was paged before I had even clocked in to start work, then when I wandered up to the checkouts, Siobhán admonished me for not turning up immediately. WHUT? I hadn’t started work yet!

Anyways, I was on tills for about two hours out of the first two and a half, and there were myriad small things to do before I even had a chance to get onto the stuff Claire, the other girl from EPOS, had asked me to do.

The first big thing I did today was, eh, posters.
Now, I don’t know who decides who works in what section, but most of the back office staff (EPOS, Cash Office, Food Safety and Personnel) are female, Kevin being the only exception, and sure he’s only been in the Cash Office a month, he barely counts at all!
On top of that, the EPOS staff are all quite small. I think the tallest of us would only hit five four, so that’s not exactly saying a lot.

Hence it’s not a good thing when you have to stick up posters. It involves climbing on ladders and trolleys and things… A whole lot of effort.
The last poster I stuck up today involved moving about thirty trolleys so I could put the ladder up, then standing on my tip-toes on the top step of the ladder, and stretching as much as possible to stick up the poster. But I got it up! And it stayed there!!

Posters done, I moved onto validating. Of the forty odd different items I scanned, about thirty of them were delisted, which means they have to be taken off the shelf and forms have to be filled in and all sorts of crazy things. It’s a pain, and a whole lot of work.

By the time I had my fourth basket of delisted items finished and had totalled up my corresponding fourth reduction sheet, which is the form which has to be filled in, I was severely stressed, extremely frazzled and not a happy bunny. Luckily I only had twenty minutes left of my shift, so it wasn’t all bad.

Except the stupid poster had fallen down, so I had to go retrieve the ladder, move the trolleys, put the poster back up and sellotape the crap out of it.
I’ll be in tomorrow and if that poster has fallen down, I’ll cry. Literally, cry.

So, yeah, I didn’t have the best day at work.
But I have very large bars of chocolate, because they’re half price!!!
And I had noodles. YUMMY!
