Much Ado About Nothing

{February 23, 2010}   Cling

I have many, many pairs of trainers – the number is ranging somewhere into double digits now, I’m almost afraid to count them.
The thing is, I really love trainers.

But there are pairs I love more than others.

The last time we went to Canada, I bought two pairs of trainers (this was about three or four years ago, I haven’t grown since, don’t judge me). One of them is black and white polka dots with rainbow stripes. I put rainbow laces in them too. The other pair is white with koi carp on them, and turquoise and white laces.
I love both pairs, but I liked the rainbow ones more.
I wore them into the ground – now I can’t wear them any more, because I walk with my feet tilted in, and it destroys the soles of my shoes. My mother made me replace the polka dotted trainers, because my feet squished in them every time I went outside.

So I replaced them with a pair of trainers bought in New York last November, not the one just gone, but the one before.
They’re black with multi-coloured Zoo York logos on them and rainbow laces too, and similarly, I loved them to pieces. I wore them almost every day, despite having numerous other pairs of trainers, and they’re also destroyed, and have been since they were only maybe nine months old, because I wore them with such frequency.
Being a college student, see, I have little else to wear but jeans and hoodies, plus, I fall over in trainers, so heels are a big no-no.

I should have thrown out those two pairs of trainers, probably years ago at this stage, but I can’t bring myself to do it, probably because I loved them so much.
I even still wear the Zoo York ones sometimes, although invariably when I do it rains, and I end up squelching my way home, which is never fun.

So, yeah, I should throw them out, but I can’t. I cling to them with some incredible ferocity, that when my mother tries to get me to chuck them I yell at her. Not cool.
I’m not sure why I’m so clingy with the damn shoes, ’cause it’s not like I don’t have other trainers to wear.
I guess you just get that way with some things.
I mean seriously, they’re really frickin’ cool trainers!
